Harris Holland’s background is somewhat hard to trace, but we do know
that he ran a successful wholesale tobacco company in London until 1835
when he formed Holland & Holland officially — due
in part to urging from his friends. It is believed that he began
manufacturing of the guns in the 1850s. Through winning EVERY category
in “The Field” magazine’s rifle trials as well as securing the trademark
“The Royal” in 1883 and 1885, respectively, the Holland & Holland brand grew rapidly along with people’s demand for fine sporting arms including Holland and Holland shotguns and Holland & Holland rifles.
